Victoria and Oak Bay Real Estate Information

Victoria is the capital of British Columbia and as such is the seat of government and houses the beautiful Parliament Buildings at the Inner Harbor. Also located in that area is a marina, the Maritime Museum, the Museum of British Columbia and our bastion of the Fairmount chain, The Empress Hotel.

The city of Victoria comprises 7.2 square miles and holds most of the offices for the Capital Regional District's 11,000 government workers. It also has some very attractive turn of the century homes in the many good residential areas close to downtown, such as James Bay - many early 1900 "painted ladies" - tall, narrow houses with lots of gingerbread; walking distance to downtown. Average prices: houses, $586,481 townhouses, $475,000.

Fernwood - many older houses, 1930's, 40's, and 50's, some from the 1910's and twenties. Up and coming area. Good family area. Average price: $475,500.

Fairfield - one of the more expensive areas close to downtown. Older homes, many refurbished. Close to the ocean. Trendy downtown area. Average price: $639,359.

Oak Bay - The most expensive area in Greater Victoria. It has many renovated turn-of-the-century and pre-war homes. The main area, Oak Bay Village, has its own shops, banks, stores, Starbucks etc. Great family area with the Oak Bay Recreation Centre, Victoria Golf Club, Uplands Golf Club, the Oak Bay Marina and the Royal Victoria Yacht Club. Excellent public schools are found in both Victoria and Oak Bay as well as private schools and French Immersion classes. Many families choose Oak Bay because of the elementary schools, Willows and Monterey, and the Oak Bay Junior and Senior High Schools. Terrific family area. Many people wouldn't live anywhere else! Sub-areas of Oak Bay include Estevan , Henderson , Gonzalas Hill and, the most expensive, Uplands . House prices average from about $881,993 to $1,000,000+ with waterfront properties commanding over $3,000,000.
